American artist GARY SIMMONS presents a much deserved 20 year survey of his work at Metro Pictures in New York. Simmons’ practice examines race relations with a critical eye towards recent and contemporary history and the iconography of American culture. Simmons’ diverse presentation of work feels like a cohesive unit with his classic erasure technique reappearing in each gallery. How beautiful is this piece from Valerie Hegarty??!! Photographed by Juliana Balestin, who contributes my very very favorite parts of Purple. Hegarty’s show just closed at Nicelle Beauchene gallery.. in fact, I was just checking out all the rest of her featured work on the gallery’s web site and fuck , I am so into decay & destruction and usually find it in different ways in the things that I like so I’m only too happy to have discovered Hegarty.. I’m ever thankful, Juliana!!!
